Brass frame Colt Navy .44 for trade
« Result #2 on Jan 12, 2012, 6:01pm »

Pietta Model 1852 Colt Navy, Brass Frame, in .44 caliber. There is a barely noticeable bend in the frame in the grip area (had it when I got it second hand) that doesn't affect it's ability to fire blank or live ammo- just a slightly odd feel in your hand. Can't see it from someone else's perspective, unless you look close. But I don't have any use for it myself, so aside from the occasional trip to the range it's just gathering dust. If anyone has any use for it, I'm more than willing to trade it, even for something as simple as a couple of books or some decent haversack stuffers. Would make a great show gun for a Confederate or a 'trophy' for a Federal.

Sorry for the poor quality of the images, took them with my cell phone. I will also give it a really good cleaning before sending it off if anyone wants it- I keep it well oiled, but our house is very damp and there's only so much you can do when it's not being used and cleaned regularly.

Just on a chance. I am in Las Vegas from the 22nd of this month onwards for a week. If there are any cavalry reenactors out there who fancy a beer please let me know.

Same here if it's still for sale. Even if you only have bits and pieces of it, I need a Grimsley for my impression. Any parts I can pick up here and there would be helpful.

 1861 tower shotgun?
« Result #7 on Dec 29, 2011, 5:22pm »

i have an 1861 tower that appears to be a shotgun. it has no sights
. only a bead on the front of the barrel. it has the crown behind the trigger. The barrel has a crown with a V under it. There is a wmillwar1 under the barrel and a serial # GHLTT. I cant read the first four digits. There also is a 41F on the barrel. The stock and everything else looks like the normal 58 cal. rifle. What do i have here? Did they use shotguns in the war?

Saddle is padded (deer hair) . A crupper goes under a horses tail and attaches back to the saddle to keep it(the saddle) from moving forward.

 Cold Weather Gloves
« Result #11 on Dec 12, 2011, 1:51am »

I am trying to find any proof/documentation/etc of exactly what type of wool gloves or any other type of cold weather gloves that soldiers may have had.

I have tried searching this forum in addtion to AC and a few others with no good answer. Does anyone have an idea?

I see some wool gloves on a few of the vendors out there but am skeptical about their authenticity. Please help me out. Thanks!

I disagree here are my feelings on the subject the key words of the question are early war local states militias had already been fielded for capital and coastal defense what i like to call the basic 3 of the army Infantry Calvary and Artillery some had already been sent to Virgina for capital defense state forces in the beginning did have funding uniforms and equipment depots and state owned armories to draw weapons from now any arms that were stacked in the war of 1812 and for Florida the Seminole wars which many Towers probably were stacked I would say the Tower musketoon proably was commonly handed out

Any help would be appreciated. The surviving qm records and documentation doesn't get into detail about exact packaging. Thanks ahead of time for your help.
