Indeed it was, and a fine parade too. The rain held for the most part as well until the last of the ceremonies took to their ending remarks. I bet you all turned the heads of every lass along the parade route.
I don't think anyone even noticed, certainly none of the hobby's rags did - they ran nothing but pictures of rag-tag Rebs and kids with toy guns.
Then I watched the US Army's cartoon charater color guard ride in the Inaugural Parade and couldn't help but feel the whole idea is wasted effort.
That sounds like I'm miffed cause I'm a glory hound and didn't get the attention I wanted - well, that's sort of true.
My job is to move 1st Maine forward. To grow it, promote it, and improve it. Everything we do is recruiting, because as soon as we stop recruiting, we are dying.
The old 1st Maine of the 70's and 80's, the 5th US, the 1st NJ, fine groups of guys on the cutting edge of their day and even now are still examples of what recreated CW cavalry ought to be - yet for practical purposes do not exist because they stopped self-promoting as organizations, stopped growing, and faded away.
While we take took Remembrance Day parade seriously (look at our faces) for what it represents - in practice, it's a joke, a CW Mummer's Parade and now that they want to charge us to participate - we won't be in it again.
