I know that a french saber would not realy fit to US troops, some of them were used by confédérates ( I will buy later a 1840 reptroduction for reenactments, I use this saber first for my confédérate equipment) 1822 french saber looks more like the 1860 US cavalry model, it is more easy to find in France 1822 sabers, not cheap, (an original is about 800 dollars)

Hey! Us Yanks stole the design fair and square. But I'll bet there were southerners on that commitee too. They know a good thing when they see it.
"Many of us volunteered to fight for the Union. Some came mainly because we were bored at home and this looked like it might be fun. Some came because we were ashamed not to. Many came because it was the right thing to do." Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, 20th Maine Infantry at Gettysburg.
