i have an 1861 tower that appears to be a shotgun. it has no sights . only a bead on the front of the barrel. it has the crown behind the trigger. The barrel has a crown with a V under it. There is a wmillwar1 under the barrel and a serial # GHLTT. I cant read the first four digits. There also is a 41F on the barrel. The stock and everything else looks like the normal 58 cal. rifle. What do i have here? Did they use shotguns in the war?

Shotguns were favored by Texas Cavalry Units, these were sawed off percussion double barreled. A ton of surplus 3 band rifles were converted to shotguns for the civilian markets, yours may be on of these.
